Learning is a never ending process. It is the one factor that differentiates the complacent from the ones who keep striving for more.
Language is one of the skills which not only broadens the horizon of an individual but uncovers new avenues for one's social and professional well being.
In an era where the whole world is becoming a global village it is all the more important that one gets to learn as many languages as possible to become an effective member of this community.
One of the biggest hindrances that people face in their professional as well as personal lives is their non familiarity with a particular language. This becomes a barrier to a number of factors as follows:
a) Settling down in a new place
b) Getting along with people
c) Finding new opportunities in professional lives
d) Grasping new ideas
Let us analyze all of the above one by one in brief details:
a) Settling down in a new place:
Learning a new language helps one being accepted in another society. It is human nature that they are more comfortable with someone speaking to them in their own language rather than struggling to communicate otherwise.
b) Getting along with people:
As stated above, the concept of global village is fast leading to the elimination of the geographical limitations. One comes across people from various backgrounds and origins in their professional as well as personal lives. However the success rate of the ones who have command over more languages is far more than the ones who have limitations in this area.
c) Finding new opportunities in professional lives
In times of unlimited opportunities across the world, one needs to acquire the basic language skills to benefit from them. If we look around the globe, we may come across a lot of successful professionals, who have gained the edge on the basis of their multi lingual skills.
d) Grasping new ideas
Besides the professional element to it, a new language helps one to learn new ideas and concepts through mere reading and interacting with people from various back grounds and origins.
Trends across the World:
One of the clear evidence of the significance of the subject is the revolutionary trends in a super power like China. A country which used to take pride in its culture and language is fast adapting to the needs of the changing dynamics of this new global village. If one gets an opportunity to visit modern China, the English speaking ability of the younger generation is commendable.
The new concept of foreign language schools among the third world countries in particular, is a clear depiction of their desire to excel & grow.
Conclusion:
With all of the above stated facts in mind, it is very obvious that learning a new language is not just a simple addition to one's knowledge but a dire need to keep up with the pace of the fast changing trends of this world.
